Places that Hire Felons

There are a number of places that hire felons that a felon looking for a job should be aware. In this article I will talk about a few of the companies and institutions that offer jobs to people with felonies and how to go about contacting these individuals. However, I want to point out that looking for a job with a felony conviction is quite a challenge. Even if you are able to find a company that will hire you as an ex-con or ex-felon you are going to be facing an uphill battle in order to get to a place in your career where you are able to support yourself and your family without assistance.

Therefore, when looking for a job with a felony it is important to take both a short term and long term view. In the short term felony employment can help you keep a roof over your head such as half way house or subsidized apartment. If you are going to get to a true place of financial freedom however you are probably going to have to be willing to expand your skillset. The fact of the matter is that most corporations do not give jobs to people with felony convictions and will weed you out during the employment background check. In order to truly develop in a career you are going to have to start at the bottom and work in a low paying job while you better yourself with skills training. Then, in time, you will be able to look for a better career path once you have established a stable job history and some time working after your felony conviction.

So, back to the topic of the article, places that hire felons. There are a number of temporary agencies who give jobs to felons on a short term basis. Most of these jobs are labor intensive and might include landscaping, laying sprinkler systems or construction. Typically the pay for such jobs will be low. The internet is a great place to find temporary employment agencies that hire felons. When you look on a temporary employment agencies website, make sure you check the FAQ to see if they hire people who have been convicted of a felony in the past.

Another option for finding a job for people with felonies is the United States military. The military actually can be pretty discriminating in who they allow to join and you will have to go through the application process. However, the fact that you have a felony conviction doesn’t automatically mean that you will be ineligible to serve in the Armed Forces. The more education that you have and the better the standardized test scores, the more likely the military will be in bringing you aboard even if you have a felony. Now, for certain felony convictions, the military will not allow you to enlist. So check with the enlistment requirements before meeting with a recruiter.

If you are beginning to get discouraged, I can certainly understand. However, you need to remember that there are millions of felons with good jobs in the United States today. And while finding a job with a felony conviction presents a challenge, it is certainly not something that can not be overcome if you are willing to show some determination.
